Last night as the family was retiring for the evening, I let the dog out to do her business. I looked up and immediately went back in to grab my camera and tripod. The moon was mesmerizing with the heavy cloud cover and light reflecting off the clouds. Of course, when I came back out, the moon was gone, but it did not take long for it to appear again.
For equipment, I was using my Nikon D500, Tamron 150-600 lens, tripod, and remote release. The trick was to get the best camera settings. I maximized the lens zoom to 600mm, set it to the widest aperture of f/6.3, and set the camera ISO to 800. Now the tricky part – the shutter speed. The light was always changing. I adjusted the shutter speed back and forth as the moon came in and out of the clouds. This plan worked, and I got the hang of it after a hundred shots. Unfortunately, the mosquitos began to find me, and I had to go in.

These are amazing shots! Do you ever offer photography classes? I have a wonderful Nikon D5100 sitting in a drawer. My learning style has morphed over the years. Sadly, reading and doing is much less effective for me than watching and imitating:(

Hello Marcy, Thank you for your wonderful comment. I do not do offer classes at the moment, but is something that I have thought about. If you have any questions about photography or your camera, I would love to answer them.
