Winter Hike to Big Dog Falls
A week of warmer weather and a day of rain has brought spring like water levels to one of the best Upper Valley water drops, with the taste of winter. The brook even gave me a smile on the way home. The wide angle shots were all taken with a 10 stop ND filter (15-30 sec. exposures) and the close-up shots with a 200mm lens with 3 stop ND filter.

Winter Hike to Smith Pond
On this warm overcast January morning I made the trek up to the second water fall just below Smoth Pond. There was still some moving water which I think is abnormal for this time of year. View from 2/3 of the way up. Looking at Shaker Village and Mascoma Lake. View of falls using 35mm lens with 3 exposures using 10 stop ND filter. ISO 100. 135mm, f/16 1/6 sec. ISO 100, 200mm, f/16, 1/20 sec. ISO 100, 80mm, f/22, 1/8 sec. Threee exposures at f/22, 80mm, ISO 100. Infrared shot using older Nikon D50 with Hoya filter at 35mm, f/5.0, 13 sec. Some hungry porcupines.
