Some of it has to do with brand loyalty, I used Nikon’s when I shot with film, in fact, I still own them. There is nothing wrong with other brands, a camera is just a tool, but here are three of my top reasons:

I prefer the Nikon button layout. Some brands like Sony are more menu-driven.

I like that Nikon has not changed its camera lens mounting system (until the Z Series) as Canon did. The ability to use old glass that can be thirty years old opens a huge range of equipment possibilities.

Nikon’s reliability. I have dropped my camera, used in hot, cold, and wet conditions with no performance issues. I know of photographers that switched to Nikon, because their equipment could not handle the elements.

My Gear

Nikon D500 – Nikon’s best cropped sensor DSLR – 10fps which is great for wildlife and sports.

Nikon D7100 – My back-up camera, was their best cropped sensor. I still use a lot especially if there is a chance to damage the camera.

GoPro Hero 6 – I strap this to my bike, head, chest, back-pack, etc. Great for quick videos and grab those crazy moments.

Tamron 10-24mm Wide Angle f/3.5-4.5 – This was the first lens that I purchased and is the one I use the most. Waterfall, landscapes, interior shots, close-ups , etc.

Tamron 17-55 f/2.8- A great fast all around lens. Places that I love to be around. Hi, I am Travis, a landscape, nature, wildlife, and the occasional portrait and wedding photographer living in the Upper Valley. A lover of exploring nature, I discovered that combining my passion for the outdoors and photography was the perfect mix. Nowadays, I am rarely seen without a camera by my side. I photograph anything and everything using the vast abundance of tools available including, digital and traditional film equipment. I enjoy the endless possibilities and the ability to capture a moment in time to cherish later because what you see is always changing. If you have an interest or passion for photography. “Let’s talk”. Displayed at Quail Hollow – “My favorite photos”, 2019. Equipment I use Nikon camera bodies, GoPro sport cameras, Nikon Lenses, Tamron Lenses, Benro Tripods, and B&W Filters. Why do I shoot with Nikon? Some of it has to do with brand loyalty, I used Nikon’s when I shot with film, in fact, I still own them. There is nothing wrong with other brands, a camera is just a tool, but here are three of my top reasons: I prefer the Nikon button layout. My Gear Nikon D500 – Nikon’s best cropped sensor DSLR – 10fps which is great for wildlife and sports. Great for portraiture and lo-light situations. Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 – A nice all-around consumer lens with a little more range than the Tamron. Nikon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 – This is glass from the 1990’s. Another great all-around lens. Great for product shots and has a neat Macro feature. Nikon 35mm f/1.8 – fast prime, great for portraits. Nikon 40mm Macro f/2.8 – If you can get close to your subject – a great Macro lens – the best bang for your buck. Nikon 50mm f/1.8 – I have two of these old manual focus beauties. Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 – A decent consumer grade lens. Use when I do not want lug my heavy 200mm lens. Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 – A lens from the 1980’s. This is my second favorite lens. It is heavy and built like a tank. They produced over 100,000 and was the go to lens for photojournalists. Tamron 150-600 f.5.6-6.3 – I love this lens. Weighs less than my 200mm lens and takes rock sharp images, even hand-held. Great for wildlife photography.
